Clean & Green
Project Measures
Although still in its infancy, the Clean and Green Project is already making an impact across the company and the measures implemented to date include the following:
- Version One's carbon emissions are being offset with the planting of native broad-leaved trees across the UK. In addition, for every batch of 100 trees planted, this sponsors the shipping of ten computers to African schools giving 480 children a grounding in computer skills.
- In total, Version One will be sponsoring the shipping of 50 computers to African schools between July 2009 and March 2010. This scheme is being run through The Tree Appeal which in turn, partners with Computer Aid International. For further information see http://www.treeappeal.com/World_Tree_Appeal.html
- The introduction of staff suggestion boxes (made from recycled cardboard) so that staff can put forward their ideas on making the company even greener.
- The Green Ideas Forum is now chaired by Version One's general manager, Julian Buck and includes a range of staff from across the company. This Ideas Forum decides upon which staff suggestions to implement and ensures the measures are successfully carried-out.
- The 'Clean and Green' staff awards have been introduced. Each month a 'Green Champion' and a 'Green Villain' are decided upon - The Green Champion, which is a member of staff that has demonstrated environmental friendliness and awareness, is awarded with an extra day's holiday (a 'duvet day'). The Green Villain is 'named and shamed'.
- Version One is currently carrying out a carbon audit to determine the amount of carbon being emitted across the company and in which areas. This information will be used to effectively drive the Clean and Green Project.
